Of all the really cool mountain bike races, the Andes Pacifico has to be one of the coolest. It’s basically a week long party with a bike race for entertainment. The scenery is flat out stunning too. At any rate, I started watching the GMBN video covering their entry into the 2020 race and about 25 seconds in there was a shot of this water crossing. Does anybody know what the plastic spider thingy is that’s on the lug nuts?
Weird lug nut spider thingy - any idea what it is / is for?

I’m going to guess that is what remains of a broken hubcap.

I’m gonna go with either what ITA97 said, or maybe some kind of lug retainer to keep the lug nuts from coming unscrewed. But it’s probably the hubcap thing.

Probably keeps the lugs from getting gunked up or something like that. Could also serve as a way to lay a wheel down without it destroying the face (not these steelies in particular, but nicer wheels)

There used to be a somewhat local race in Golden B.C. called the mount 7 psychosis, held on Mount 7. Ran for I think 3 or 4 years, until some of the pros started claiming it was too long (13km) and too dangerous. But boy howdy is it a fun trail not at race pace. It starts with 300 ft. of almost vertical straightline singletrack right off the hang glider platform at the peak. Then its 5-6 km of super tech big mountain drops, chutes rocks n trees. Then its 5 km of some regular-ish groomed downhill, into a 14' tall, 25-30' out road gap into the last 3 km of perfectly smooth high banked snake run through a ravine, to a massive (think Crabapple hits @ Whistler) kicker over the finish. Its one of my favorite shuttle trails. The race hasn’t been a thing for more than a decade, but the locals keep grooming and adding features. A brilliant hill with a long storied history.
